All PSL 5 Matches Will be Played in Pakistan, PCB Confirms

A moment to rejoice for all the Pakistani fans as the fifth edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL) will be played entirely on home soil.

This news was confirmed by the chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Ehsan Mani on Thursday at Gadaffi Stadium.

Mani added that four stadiums have been shortlisted to host the PSL 5 games, which include Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi and Multan.

He further added that PCB is aiming to host the upcoming series against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in Pakistan as well.

Despite the refusal to play cricket in Pakistan, Australian Board along with English board have both been invited to Pakistan to review the security and conditions. Ehsan claimed that he hopes to convince both boards to play a series in Pakistan as well.

Lastly, Mani claimed that Asia Cup rights have also been given to Pakistan and hopes that all teams agree to participate including India.

Ehsan Mani claimed that 85 percent of all the tasks on his agenda have been achieved and he is now working solely on reviving international cricket in Pakistan and improving the domestic circuit.

All six Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchises have agreed to play the domestic competition in Pakistan, according to the latest reports.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) held a meeting with the franchise owners and reassured them over safeguarding their interests.

The meeting, held on Monday, concluded that PSL 2020 will be held in Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpindi, and Multan.

The complete breakdown of matches being hosted by each city is as follows:

VenueCapacityMatches
Gadaffi Stadium, Lahore        27,000                     13
National Stadium, Karachi               35,000   9
Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium        28,000   8
Multan Cricket Stadium           35,000   4

The opening ceremony of PSL 2020 will be held in Karachi whereas the final of PSL 5 will be played at Gadaffi Stadium, Lahore.

Lahore is also going to host the playoff games for the 5th edition of the PSL.

In addition to that, the board and franchises also agreed to revisit the financial model of the PSL to chalk out a beneficial system for both parties involved.

The next edition of the PSL is expected to start from 20th February and further details regarding the event will be discussed in the next meeting, the date of which is yet to be finalized.

Rawalpindi and Multan Stadium Will be Renovated to Host PSL Matches: PCB Chairman

Following the successful hosting of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2019 matches, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Prime Minister Imran Khan are hopeful to organize the entire league in Pakistan in 2020.

If that is the case, the matches can only be held at two venues i.e. Gaddafi Stadium Lahore and National Stadium Karachi considering these are high-profile fixtures.

In response to a question regarding the possible venues for the PSL 2020, PCB Chairman Ehsan Mani told the media that renovation works are being done at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium and Multan Cricket Stadium.

He further said that PCB has spent Rs. 100 million on Rawalpindi Stadium in the previous year and it will be ready for hosting PSL matches by June/July this year. Multan Stadium is also capable of hosting international matches after some upgrading, Mani said in a press conference.

Full-houses in National Stadium Karachi were proof that PSL needs to come home for cricket-deprived fans. The atmosphere was nothing short of electric and we can hope to see more of it in the next season of PSL.

FIVE IDEAL STADIUMS TO HOST PSL MATCHES IN PAKISTAN

Gaddafi_Stadium_at_Night

Pakistan’s biggest T20 extravaganza PSL is around the corner and it’s quite unfortunate that it’s not taking place in Pakistan. But its hope that runs cricket in Pakistan, so were are hopeful that one day cricket will actually come back home. In order to celebrate some of the most remarkable cricket venues in Pakistan we are listing five significant cricket stadiums in Pakistan which can be ideal venues to host PSL games.

Ayub National Stadium, Quetta

Ayyub National Stadium formerly known as Baluchistan Cricket Association Ground is not just a cricket ground it also serves as the venue for football games. The stadium has capacity to accommodate 20,000 people. This stadium can serve as the home ground of Quetta Gladiators.

Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium

Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium is among the newest cricket stadiums in Pakistan which hosted its first game in 1993 and it was 3rd stadium in Pakistan to have the facility of floodlights. After the renovations of early 2000s now this stadium can hold around 25,000 spectators. Since Islamabad does not have an international standard cricket stadium, Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium can be the home of Islamabad United.

National Stadium, Karachi

National Stadium has the capacity to hold 34,228 spectator. This stadium is witness to many cricket stories, it also holds the significant record of Pakistan not losing a single test match at this venue until 2000 (overall Pakistan has lost only twice in this stadium once in 2000 to England, and then in 2007 to South Africa). The iconic National Stadium is without a doubt a true home ground of Karachi Kings.

Arbab Niaz Stadium, Peshawar

Arbab Niaz Stadium was established in 1984 and hosted its first test match in 1995. The stadium has capacity of 20,000. Interestingly the first ODI played here in 1984 for was Pakistan Vs India and the last time this stadium hosted an international game was again an ODI between Pakistan and India this time in 2006. Arbab Niaz Stadium was also the first one in Pakistan to have digital scoreboard. This is a potential home ground of Peshawar Zalmi.

Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore

The most striking stadium of Pakistan, the largest stadium in Pakistan, and fifth largest stadium in the world Gaddafi Stadium is truly an iconic stadium. It is the only stadium in the world which has hosted final of Hockey World Cup as it was venue for the final of Men’s Hockey World Cup in 1990, and later it hosted final of 1996 Cricket World Cup. It was Pakistan’s first and for many years the only cricket stadium with floodlights facility, it has the capacity of over 27,000. Can there be any better option to be home to Lahore Qalandars?

Ground history

Originally Lahore Stadium, the ground was renamed in 1974 in honour of the former Libyan leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi following a speech he gave at the 2nd Organisation of the Islamic Conference meeting in Lahore in favour of Pakistan’s right to pursue nuclear weapons. The stadium houses the headquarters of the Pakistan Cricket Board.

In 1995–96, the Gaddafi Stadium was renovated by architect Nayyar Ali Dada – who is qualified from National College of Arts Lahore – for the 1996 Cricket World Cup

Dada’s redesign was done in the Mughal style, with red, hand-laid brickwork and arches. Dada also had plastic seating installed in place of the existing concrete benches. The lower portion under the stands was enclosed and converted to shops for boutiques and offices. Gaddafi Stadium was the first in Pakistan to be equipped with modern floodlights having their own standby power generators.

On 23rd October 2020, Pakistan Cricket Board discussed renaming the stadium following the death of Gaddafi, to support the new government in Libya. The Punjab Olympic Association made a similar request in late October 2020 to the provincial chief minister, “I don’t think his profile is inspirational enough to link with our cricket stadium’s identity.” As of April 2020, however, it does not appear that the stadium’s name will be changed after all.

Gaddafi Stadium being the largest cricket stadium in Pakistan used to have capacity of 60,000 spectators, until the redesigning of its enclosures reduced the capacity to 27,000.

Gaddafi Stadium

Cricket history

In 1968, a Test match, played against England, was affected due to riots.

In 1977, another Test, also against England, was affected due to riots between police and spectators.

Three hat-tricks have been taken at the stadium, by Peter Petherick of New Zealand against Pakistan, 9 October 1976, Wasim Akram of Pakistan against Sri Lanka, 6 March 1999 and Mohammad Sami of Pakistan against Sri Lanka.

Pakistan has enjoyed some memorable moments on the ground, including a fifth-wicket stand of 281 between Javed Miandad and Asif Iqbal against New Zealand in 1976 and an innings and 324 run win against New Zealand in 2002.

On 3 March 2009, the scheduled third day of second Test of 2008–09 Sri Lanka tour of Pakistan, the Sri Lankan team’s convoy was attacked by armed militants at Liberty Roundabout, near Gaddafi stadium. Eight Sri Lankan players were injured, including Sri Lankan captain, Mahela Jayawardene. The Sri Lankan team was air-lifted from Gaddafi Stadium to a nearby airbase, from where they were evacuated back to Sri Lanka, this event marked the end of international cricket in Pakistan.

However, on 19 May 2015, the Zimbabwe cricket team landed at the Allama Iqbal International Airport to become the first Full Member nation to tour Pakistan since March 2009.On 5 March 2017 the final of the 2017 Pakistan Super League was played in the stadium.Pakistan won both ODI and T20I series comfortably.

On August 2017, PCB along with ICC started to improve international cricket in Pakistan. With that, under heavy security, PCB planned World XI tour to Pakistan for three T20Is.

In August 2017, Thilanga Sumathipala, president of Sri Lanka Cricket, said that he would like to play at least one of the three T20I matches in Lahore, Pakistan during October. In March 2009, the Sri Lanka cricket team were attacked by terrorists while travelling to the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Since then, the only Test side to visit Pakistan has been Zimbabwe, when they toured during May 2015.Two of Sri Lanka’s current team, Chamara Kapugedera and Suranga Lakmal were on the bus during the 2009 terrorist attack, and both could have been selected for the T20I squad for this series.

In September 2017, the fixtures were confirmed, with the final T20I match of the series scheduled to be played in Lahore. Sri Lanka Cricket said that players have a “contractual obligation” to play the match in Lahore, but it was unlikely to issue penalties to any player who chose not to visit Pakistan. However, on 14 October 2017, the Sri Lankan team expressed their reluctance to travel to Pakistan, requesting that the fixture is moved to a neutral venue. On 16 October 2017, Sri Lanka Cricket confirmed that the fixture in Lahore would go ahead as planned, but their limited-overs captain, Upul Tharanga, had pulled out of the match. Despite the concerns from the players, team manager Asanka Gurusinha felt that a competitive squad would be named. On 19 October 2017, Sri Lanka’s chief selector, Graham Labrooy, said that players who do not travel to Lahore would be unlikely to be selected for the other two T20I fixtures. The squad for the T20I fixtures was named two days later, with Thisara Perera selected as captain.

The Sri Lankan squad arrived in Lahore under “extraordinary” security and made their way to the team’s hotel in a bomb-proof bus. Ahead of the T20I in Lahore, Cricket Sri Lanka’s president Thilanga Sumathipala said that the team was privileged to be in Pakistan and that he would help support the country in hosting more tours. Najam Sethi, chairman of the PCB, said that this fixture would be the start of international cricket returning to the country, with him expecting every country to play in Pakistan by the end of 2020.Pakistan went on to win the T20I series 3–0.

The venue is also hosted some of the main matches as a part of the 2018 Blind Cricket World Cup.In September 2019, the Pakistan Cricket Board named it as one of the venues to host matches in the 2019–20 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy.

National Stadium, Karachi

Karachi, Pakistan’s largest and most populous city, presents an interesting and colourful combination of the old and new. The National Stadium became Karachi’s fifth and Pakistan’s 11th first-class ground. The inaugural first-class match was played at NSK between Pakistan and India on 21–24 April 1955, and it became a fortress of Pakistan cricket. In 34 Tests between that first match and December 2000, Pakistan won 17 and were never beaten. Their only Test defeat on the ground came in the gloom against England in 2000–01.

The first ODI at the National Stadium was against West Indies on 21 November 1980, and it went down to the last ball as Gordon Greenidge drove Imran Khan imperiously to the cover boundary with three needed. It has been a far less successful limited-overs venue, with defeats outnumbering victories. In fact, in a little under five years from the start of 1996, Pakistan failed to win on the ground. It also staged a quarter-final match in the 1996–97 World Cup.

Sachin Tendulkar and Waqar Younis played their first test match in this stadium.

Built in 1955, the National Stadium became the largest cricket stadium in Pakistan after renovations were made to Gaddafi Stadium, which reduced its seating capacity. As of now, being among the best cricket stadiums in Pakistan, the National Stadium can hold about 34,000 spectators. It is also the home ground of the PSL team Karachi Kings. It was once considered as the ‘Fortress of Pakistani cricket’ as Pakistan lost very few Test matches on this ground.

The pitch here offers an advantage to fast bowlers in Test matches, but it remains batting-friendly for ODIs (One-Day Internationals). While the National Stadium has seen several international matches being played since its construction, the matches played here during the 1987 and 1996 World Cup are of note. The stadium was also the host for the final as well as several other matches of PSL in 2020.

Multan Cricket Stadium

Multan Cricket Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Multan, Punjab, Pakistan. The stadium is located off Vehari Road, in the suburbs of Multan. It is primarily used for cricket matches. The stadium seats 35,000 and hosted its first test match in 2001, Pakistan against Bangladesh for the Asian Test Championship. The stadium hosts both forms of international cricket: Test cricket and One Day International.

The ground was inaugurated in 2001 as a replacement for the Ibn-e-Qasim Bagh Stadium located in the heart of Multan. Floodlights were recently installed to make day/night cricket matches possible. The first day/night game played at this ground was between arch-rivals India and Pakistan.

The Multan Cricket Stadium hosts Test matches as well as ODIs, with the pitch favouring seam bowlers. Floodlights installed within the stadium enable it to host both day and night matches with ease.

RAWALPINDI CRICKET STADIUM

Several matches of the 1996 World Cup were played at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium
A Practice Match Being Played at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium

Serving the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium was constructed in 1992 with space for 25,000 spectators. It is the home ground of the PSL team Islamabad United and is just 5 kilometres outside the capital city of Islamabad.

The Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium was a fairly busy venue during the 1996 World Cup due to its favourable pitch but several Test matches have also been played here.

Pakistan, with an eye on the World Cup of 1996, unveil another new Test venue for the second Test against Zimbabwe in Rawalpindi. Karachi staged Pakistan’s first Test match and now Rawalpindi becomes the country’s 14th Test ground. Perched on the edge of the city of almost four million people and only three miles away from the capital Islamabad, the newly-built ground has seating for 15,000 people. Rawalpindi was used last January for the fifth and final one-day international against Sri Lanka, which Pakistan won by 117 runs to win the one-day series by a margin.

The last season began with the first game between Islamabad United and Lahore Qalandars in Dubai on February 14, which followed the opening ceremony held on the same day. Matches after that were played in Pakistan with Lahore having first nominated to host a few games but Karachi hosting all eight in the end.

In the last season, there was a good demand for PSL tickets through the league stages of the tournament before it touched crescendo when the playoffs and the final came to Pakistan.

HBL PSL 2020 Schedule and Time – to be released

The PSL schedule for the 2020 edition will be released soon with the tournament to be played around the months of February and March as has been the case throughout the previous seasons.

The previous season saw the tournament start off from February 14 in UAE with the final eight matches of the tournament played in Pakistan. Karachi had hosted the final on March 17. PSL 2019 schedule is placed below for now and will be replaced by the 2020 schedule once we have more information about it.

The fourth season of the tournament was played between February 14, 2020, and March 17, 2020, with matches expected played in Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi during the UAE leg, and Karachi for the final eight matches. Three of these matches were to be played in Lahore and five in Karachi but now all matches were moved to Karachi. The complete PSL fixtures with time will be updated for the 2020 season once announced.

The Pakistan Super League might be coming home for good as the Pakistan Cricket Board and all six franchises have agreed to play the fifth edition of the tournament in its entirety in Pakistan.

Karachi, Lahore, Multan and Rawalpindi have been chalked as the four cities in which the tournament will take place this time around.

Lahore, home to the PCB’s headquarters, is set to host 13 of the total 34 games including the final itself. This year’s matches in Lahore were all shifted to Karachi due to political tensions with India.

The tournament is expected to begin from February 20 in Karachi, where last year’s final took place.

However, the announcement is still subject to players agreeing to play the entire tournament in Pakistan and the UAE still remains a back-up option.

Usually, every season, teams are allowed to retain a handful of players while the rest of them are released back into the PSL Draft. Then, based on what the teams need, their pick in the Draft and the remaining players, they fill up their entire squads. The PSL Draft date will be announced later but it could be held towards the end of 2019.

Once the Draft is over, the PSL squads will be updated with the final teams for the 2020 version of the tournament but for now, here’s a list of all PSL squads from the 2019 edition of the competition.

Before the previous PSL Draft, teams were allowed to retain up to 10 players divided into the various available categories, Platinum, Diamond, Gold, Silver and Emerging. Based on the number of players allowed to retain and those actually retained, teams were allowed to pick the rest of them using the Draft that was held in Islamabad.

Also, before the Draft, teams were allowed trades between themselves as a part of a retention process. The Lahore Qalandars released Brendon McCullum from their squad and brought in Hassan Khan and Rahat Ali in place of Sunil Narine and Umar Akmal who went to the Quetta Gladiators. In another trade, Sohail Tanvir has left Multan Sultans and joined Quetta Gladiators for this season of the PSL. Also interesting to note was that Mohammad Hafeez has been released from the Peshawar Zalmi squad and he will be a part of the Draft that will be held later this month.

PSL 2020 Draft Highlights

During the Draft, the Lahore Qalandars had the first chance to pick a player in the Platinum player and with guys like AB de Villiers and Steven Smith available to feature in the tournament, it was never going to be difficult. The Qalandars went for de Villiers while Multan Sultans, chose Smith.

However, Smith was later ruled out of the competition because of an elbow injury that needed him to return to Australia for surgery.

Shahid Afridi was also picked up by Multan Sultans, while Peshawar Zalmi went for Kieron Pollard and Karachi Kings chose Colin Munro. Also Dwayne Bravo went to Quetta Gladiators during the Platinum picks.

The Diamond category of players saw players like Ian Bell, Mohammad Nawaz, Carlos Brathwaite and Joe Denly get a look in while Samit Patel, Phil Salt, Sikandar Raza, Dawid Malan, Umar Amin, Sandeep Lamichanne, Qais Ahmed and Nicholas Pooran all made it to respective sides from the Silver category.

The bad news for the Multan Sultans was that Steven Smith opted out of the tournament because of an elbow injury. He was replaced by Andre Russell in the Replacement Draft. They also got in James Vince for Joe Denly.

In that same replacement draft, Peshawar Zalmi brought in Andre Fletcher in place of Waqar Salamkheil, while Dwayne Smith will act as a cover for Dwayne Bravo because he won’t be joining the Quetta Gladiators quickly enough.

Lahore Qalandars have signed up for Hardus Viljoen and David Wiese who will come in if AB de Villiers, Corey Anderson and Carlos Brathwaite don’t figure in all their matches.

The country has a strong cricketing heritage and keeps dishing out prominent players on the scene. The country’s capacity at hurling fast bowlers on the cricketing arena is almost incredible. The administrators are tweaking last year’s faults to ensure that everything is hunky dory with Karachi set to host the psl 2020 final . The HBL PSL 2019 players list is placed above.

As we all know that PSL is going to be played here in Pakistan for the first time, This will really impact on the Pakistani players playing in PSL because local Pakistani players love to play on their home ground and do best of their.

Pakistan Super League PSL 2020

HBL PSL 2020 will be held entirely in Pakistan

Quetta Gladiators will kick-start the 2020 edition of the Pakistan Super League as the defending champion after defeating Peshwar Zalmi in the final. And according to Pakistan Prime Minister, Imran Khan, it has been announced that the entire PSL will be played in Pakistan next time, which will come as huge news for all Pakistan cricket fans.

According to sources, Lahore and Karachi will be two of the host cities for the fifth PSL season with other cities who have expressed a desire to host the tournament include Multan, Islamabad, Peshawar, Rawalpindi and Quetta.

More information on the PSL schedule for this 2020 edition of the tournament will be released as we get closer to the date but for now, the buzz is that the Pakistan Super League will be played between February 20 and March 22, 2019.

While the PCB is still working on the logistics around the PSL for the upcoming edition, it has been said that all the matches will be played in Pakistan. What this means is that the players who make it to the PSL Draft will have to be a part only if they can commit to featuring in Pakistan for all the games unlike any of the previous seasons.

Media reports in Pakistan suggest that Lahore could host 11 matches while Karachi will see nine matches played. The tournament might also be played at Multan and Rawalpindi who could host 12 matches between them. In other big news, there are reports that the PSL 2020 Final will be played at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore as opposed to the National Stadium in Karachi.

In the fourth season of the Pakistan Super League which was played in 2019, Quetta Gladiatorswon the title by defeating Peshawar Zalmi in the final. This was after both, the Gladiators and Zalmis finished in the top two of the points table with 14 points from 10 games.

The other two teams that qualified for the playoffs where Islamabad United and Karachi Kings, finishing third and fourth with five wins each. Multan Sultans failed to make the playoffs along with the perennial bottom-perchers, Lahore Qalandars who finished sixth yet again.

In the playoffs, Quetta defeated Peshawar in the first Qualifier by 10 runs thanks to a Shane Watson’s 71 to reach the final. Islamabad United overcame Karachi Kings to knock them out of the competition before a Kamran Akmal 74 ended the United hopes in the second Qualifier.

The final saw the Zalmis struggle to make a mere 138/8 from their 20 overs which the Gladiators chased down in 17.5 overs for the loss of two wickets only.

The 2019 edition of the Pakistan Super League was played from February 14, 2019, and eight of the matches were played in Pakistan. The last eight games of the 2019 PSL were played in Pakistan, including the final which was played in Karachi like last season.

PCB had intended to hold three matches in Lahore while Karachi was to host five matches including the season finale but all matches that were to be played in Pakistan were later shifted to Karachi.

The third edition of the HBL PSL concluded on the 25th of March and was yet another successful season. The final was held in Karachi while two games during the playoffs were played in Lahore. We had six teams, 34 matches and 3 matches in Pakistan with 2 taking place in Lahore and 1 match played at Karachi.

In what came across as a surprising move, the Peshawar Zalmi captain Darren Sammy won the toss and decided to bat first. With chasing being a much easier task, the move backfired when the side managed to score just 148/9 from their 20 overs against a batting line-up that had shown considerable strength in the competition.

And that’s exactly how things turned out. Luke Ronchi continued with his impressive form and scored another half-century as the Islamabad United romped to their second title with more than three overs to spare.

First-timers Multan Sultans and Lahore Qalandars were knocked out of the tournament in the first round itself.

The second edition of the HBL PSL was won by Peshawar Zalmi. In what turned out to be a one-sided final, the Peshawar Zalmi defeated the Quetta Gladiators in the title-decider to lift the trophy. Darren Sammy hammered a quick-fire 28 down the order to become the difference between a score of 125 and 148 and on that slow and sluggish surface, the Gladiators were able to manage just 90 in reply. Mohammad Asghar grabbed three wickets while Hasan Ali and Wahab Riaz scalped two apiece.

The HBL PSL cricket league has put the cricket action from the country back on the map. Boasting of international players and a league like format, the tournament took place in three stages, which was played in Dubai, Sharjah and Pakistan. The teams representing 6 major cities – Peshawar, Quetta, Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore and Multan will take part in the competition.

The number of teams in the PSL 2020 is expected to remain the same, at six teams, which means the number of matches will remain at 34 too, with 30 in the group stages and four during the playoffs. More information on the PSL 5 schedule 2020 will be released below.

The last season began with the first game between Islamabad United and Lahore Qalandars in Dubai on February 14, which followed the opening ceremony held on the same day. Action moved to Sharjah on February 20, while two matches were played in Abu Dhabi on March 4 and 5. Matches after that were played in Pakistan with Lahore having first nominated to host a few games but Karachi hosting all eight in the end.

In the last season, there was a good demand for PSL tickets through the league stages of the tournament before it touched crescendo when the playoffs and the final came to Pakistan.

In arguably the most significant step towards the PSL returning in full to Pakistan, the owners of the franchises in conjunction with the PCB reaffirmed their commitment to playing the fifth edition of the tournament in the country. Four venues – Lahore, Karachi, Multan and Rawalpindi – have been nominated to cover the entire tournament spanning 34 games, though the UAE remains as a back-up option.

The PCB chairman met all franchise owners on Monday to discuss the plans for the tournament slated to begin on February 20 in Karachi. As things stand, Lahore stands to stage 13 matches.

Multan, which last hosted international cricket in 2008, is also believed to be ready to host the tournament. The stadium in Rawalpindi, meanwhile, is being renovated to ensure it is prepared to host matches.

Over the years, the PCB has used the PSL as a platform to revive international cricket in the country. The ball got rolling in 2017 when the Gadaffi Stadium hosted the final. In the following season, four games were held across Karachi and Lahore.

Earlier this year, the final eight games were scheduled to be played in Lahore and Karachi. However, they were all moved to Karachi following political tensions with India, which shares a border with Lahore.

The 2017 PSL final paved way for an ICC-approved World XI to tour Pakistan for three T20Is, while West Indies and Sri Lanka have also toured the country to play T20Is since. Prior to that, only Zimbabwe visited Pakistan in 2015 for three ODIs and two T20Is since the 2009 terror attack, and while the games themselves went off without a hitch, a a bomb explosion two kilometres from the stadium killed one policeman.

While the World XI series saw an influx of high-profile players, including a strong South African contingent led by Faf du Plessis and Hashim Amla, as well as Tamim Iqbal, Thisara Perera and current Australian Test captain Tim Paine, many others high-profile players have been reluctant to tour Pakistan in the past.

To PCB’s credit, they managed to convince all the foreign players who featured in the 2018 season to tour Pakistan. Among them was Shane Watson, who had earlier expressed his reservations of playing in the country.

During the meeting, the franchises touched upon various other issues, including reworking their 10-year contracts with the PCB, seeking perpetuity rights, abolishing bank guarantees, and pegging dollar rate on payments and taxation.

Since it was an informal meeting, all these matters will be taken up when the PSL’s general council meets later this month, with a working group constituted to deliberate matters.

The final of the 2020 Pakistan Super League (PSL) final will be held at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, according to samaa news.

The publication has quoted its sources as saying that Lahore would get to host 11 matches in next year’s PSL, while nine matches will be staged at Karachi’s National Stadium.

Lahore will also get to host the final, according to Samaa, while some fixtures could also be assigned to stadia in Rawalpindi and Multan.

It is pertinent to mention here that the last two PSL finals had taken place in Karachi. Lahore has hosted the winner-takes-all fixture just once in 2016.

The month-long PSL 5, Samaareports, will begin on Feb 20 and conclude on March 22. The player draft is to take place in November this year.

The 2020 PSL will be the first time that the tournament is staged in Pakistan in its entirety. The PCB’s flagship T20 tournament was played completely in UAE in its inaugural edition. Since then, the board has gradually moved it back home.

Seven teams to compete in 2020 edition

ISLAMABAD: One more team will be added to the Pakistan Super League (PSL) family in 2020 raising the total strength to seven, confirmed Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Najam Sethi in an interview.

Six teams will again be seen in action in the fourth edition next year and then the strength of teams going up in 2020. “The city that makes the highest bid will be given the rights for the seventh team. At this point we don’t want to hurry up things rather than concentrating on making the PSL more formidable and eye catching. It is where we would be in a position to get best deal for the seventh team.”

Sethi recalled that Karachi Kings were sold out for around Rs250 million at the outset of the league. “Following its two years of success, we sold Multan Sultans’ rights for over Rs500 million. So once we would be in a position to hold majority of matches in Pakistan, I am sure we would get even bigger amount for the seventh team.”

The PCB chairman, who is also the chief executive PSL, ruled out organising all league matches in Pakistan starting from 2019. “That is not possible because of complications involved. Grounds in Pakistan are not ready for so many matches and secondly crew handles PSL live coverage has its limitations and complications.”

Regarding stadiums’ capacity, Sethi said that the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore and National Stadium in Karachi were in a position to host PSL matches. “Efforts are on to make Multan and Pindi stadiums worthy of hosting matches.”

The opening ceremony of PSL 2020 will be held in Karachi whereas the final of PSL 5 will be played at Gadaffi Stadium, Lahore.

Lahore is also going to host the playoff games for the 5th edition of the PSL.

In addition to that, the board and franchises also agreed to revisit the financial model of the PSL to chalk out a beneficial system for both parties involved.

The next edition of the PSL is expected to start from 20th February and further details regarding the event will be discussed in the next meeting, the date of which is yet to be finalized.

PSL New 7th team for PSL 2020

Here is amazing news for Pakistan Super League PSL Fans.
Did you now PCB Announce New PSL 7th team for PSL 5 session, do you suggest for this new PSL Team?

PSL 2020 to be played fully in Pakistan
